Associate Professor Dr Ng Chong Guan went to medical school in University Malaya, andgraduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2001. After having served as a medical officer in Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for three years, he pursued his Master of Psychological Medicine in University Malaya in 2005. Shortly after its completion in 2009, Dr Ng was awarded the scholarship from European Union via AsiaLink to complete the Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence based Medicine Program in Utrecht University, the Netherlands. In the context of this program, he was offered a PhD fellowship in Clinical Epidemiology in Utrecht University. In 2010, Dr Ng returned to serve as a senior lecturer and continued his doctoral training in Department of Psychological Medicine, University Malaya after he successfully completed his Master of Sciences in Clinical Epidemiology (MSc). Dr Ng has numerous publications in prestigious medical journals and a regular speaker for local and international conferences. He has vast experience in the management of major illness such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety disorder and sexual dysfunction. He has special interest in the treatment of depression among cancer patients (psycho-oncology). At the moment, Dr Ng Chong Guan is also an Associate Professor in Psychiatry in Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya and the Vice Presidents of Malaysia Mental Health Association. His languages of proficiency are English, Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hakka.
Joo Chien graduated from HELP University with a master degree in Clinical Psychology. A registered member with Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology (MSCP), he has experience working with people from different age groups and diverse backgrounds, ranging from preschool children to senior citizens in their 70’s. Other than population with special needs, he is also familiar with working in refugee, charitable and non-governmental organization settings. Believing that therapy is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client, he strives to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for his clients to carefully explore their issues, and also to flexibly accommodate to their needs to provide the best fit in bringing out the best treatment outcome. He has worked with clients on issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, special needs, schizophrenia, stress management, anger management, trauma, grief, self-esteem and other mental health issues. He is trained in conducting psycthotherapy and psychological assessments for intelligence or cognition (e.g., IQ test), developmental disorders (e.g., autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder etc), neuropsychological concerns, adaptive functioning and many others. He also has experience conducting couple/family therapy and psycho-educational workshops. At the moment, Joo Chien is also a part-time consultant for a corporate company in Kuala Lumpur. Joo Chien is fluent in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia with a working knowledge of Chinese dialects including Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka and Teochew.
